Richard Simmons
Richard Simmons (born Milton Teagle Simmons; July 12, 1948) is an American fitness instructor, actor, and video producer known for his eccentric, flamboyant, and energetic personality. Simmons has promoted weight-loss programs, most prominently through his Sweatin' to the Oldies line of aerobics videos.

Richard Simmons was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Leonard Douglas Simmons, Sr., and Shirley May. He was raised in the French Quarter of New Orleans and showed an interest in fitness from a young age. Simmons attended Cor Jesu High School (now Brother Martin High School), where he struggled with his weight and was often the subject of ridicule from his peers.

After moving to Los Angeles in the 1970s, Simmons worked as a maître d'hotel at Derek's, a restaurant in Beverly Hills. He later opened his own gym, Slimmons Studio, in Beverly Hills in 1974, focusing on a more welcoming and supportive atmosphere for those looking to lose weight. Simmons' approach was different from the typical harsh and rigorous fitness regimes of the time, emphasizing positivity and fun.
Simmons became widely known through his appearances on television talk shows, including The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and The Howard Stern Show. His energetic and humorous personality, coupled with his genuine concern for people's health, made him a beloved figure across the United States.
