Ro05-4082
Ro05-4082 is a benzodiazepine derivative drug, which is a class of drugs used primarily for their muscle relaxant, anxiolytic, amnesic, sedative, and anticonvulsant properties. Ro05-4082 is most commonly known for its anxiolytic effects.
History[edit | edit source]
Ro05-4082 was first synthesized in the 1970s by the pharmaceutical company Hoffmann-La Roche. It was part of a series of benzodiazepine derivatives developed by the company, which also included drugs such as diazepam and clonazepam.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Like other benzodiazepines, Ro05-4082 works by enhancing the effect of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, which means it reduces the activity of neurons in the brain. By enhancing the effect of GABA, benzodiazepines like Ro05-4082 can reduce anxiety, induce sleep, relax muscles, and prevent seizures.
Medical Uses[edit | edit source]
Ro05-4082 is primarily used for the treatment of anxiety disorders. It may also be used for the short-term relief of symptoms of anxiety, or anxiety associated with depressive symptoms. In addition, it may be used to treat panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
Common side effects of Ro05-4082 include drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, and ataxia. Less common side effects may include confusion, depression, and memory impairment. Long-term use of Ro05-4082 can lead to physical dependence and withdrawal symptoms upon discontinuation.
