Robert C. Robbins
Robert C. Robbins is an American cardiothoracic surgeon and academic administrator. He is the current President of the University of Arizona, a position he has held since June 1, 2017.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Robbins was born in Mississippi. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. He then went on to receive his M.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
Robbins completed his surgical residency at the Stanford University School of Medicine, where he also completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery. He became a prominent figure in the field of cardiovascular medicine, specializing in heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.
Academic Career[edit | edit source]
Before his tenure at the University of Arizona, Robbins served as the President and CEO of the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. During his time there, he was instrumental in expanding the center's research and clinical programs.
University of Arizona[edit | edit source]
Robbins was appointed as the 22nd President of the University of Arizona in 2017. Under his leadership, the university has focused on initiatives such as precision medicine, sustainability, and global health. He has also emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary research and innovation in higher education.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Robbins is married and has two children. He is an avid supporter of college athletics and enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing.
