Robert Smigel (born February 7, 1950) is an American actor, comedian, writer, producer, and puppeteer. He is best known for his work on Saturday Night Live (SNL) and for creating the character Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

Robert Smigel was born in New York City, New York. He attended New York University, where he studied pre-dentistry before switching to comedy and writing.

Saturday Night Live[edit | edit source]
Smigel joined the writing staff of Saturday Night Live in 1985. He is credited with creating several popular sketches, including "The TV Funhouse" animated segments. Smigel's work on SNL earned him multiple Primetime Emmy Awards.
Late Night with Conan O'Brien[edit | edit source]
In addition to his work on SNL, Smigel was a writer and performer on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. He created the character Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, a puppet that became a recurring feature on the show.
