New York University (NYU) is a private research university based in New York City. Founded in 1831, NYU is one of the largest private universities in the United States.

NYU was established by a group of prominent New Yorkers led by then-Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin. The university was founded with the intention of providing a "rational and practical education fitting for all and graciously open to all."

Campus[edit | edit source]

NYU's main campus is located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan. The university also has campuses in Brooklyn, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai, as well as academic centers in cities around the world.

Academics[edit | edit source]

NYU is organized into several schools and colleges, including the College of Arts and Science, the Tandon School of Engineering, the Stern School of Business, the School of Law, the School of Medicine, and the Tisch School of the Arts. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs.

NYU is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity". The university is known for its research in fields such as neuroscience, data science, economics, and law.

NYU has a diverse student body, with students from all 50 states and over 130 countries. The university offers a variety of student organizations, clubs, and activities. NYU's athletic teams, known as the NYU Violets, compete in the NCAA Division III.

NYU has produced numerous notable alumni, including Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, Angelina Jolie, and Alan Greenspan.
