The Romanian Academy (Romanian: Academia Română) is the highest cultural forum in Romania. Founded on April 1, 1866, it is a national institution that promotes the development of science, arts, and literature in Romania. The Academy is responsible for maintaining the Romanian language and its orthography, as well as for publishing the most important works of Romanian culture.

The Romanian Academy was established in 1866, initially as the "Romanian Literary Society". Its primary aim was to standardize the Romanian language and to create a comprehensive dictionary. In 1867, it became the "Romanian Academic Society", and in 1879, it was officially named the "Romanian Academy".
Throughout its history, the Academy has played a crucial role in the cultural and scientific development of Romania. It has been involved in numerous projects, including the publication of the "Dictionary of the Romanian Language" and the "Encyclopedia of Romania".
