The Romanian Academy (Romanian: Academia Română) is the highest cultural forum in Romania. Founded on April 1, 1866, it is a national institution that promotes the development of science, arts, and literature in Romania. History

The Romanian Academy was established in 1866, initially as the "Romanian Literary Society". Its primary aim was to standardize the Romanian language and to create a comprehensive dictionary. In 1867, it became the "Romanian Academic Society", and in 1879, it was officially named the "Romanian Academy".
