Ron and Valerie Taylor

Ron and Valerie Taylor are renowned Australian underwater photographers and shark experts. They have made significant contributions to marine conservation and have been instrumental in changing public perceptions about sharks.

Ron Taylor was born on 8 March 1934 in Sydney, Australia. He developed an interest in underwater photography during his early years and pursued it as a career. Valerie Taylor (née Heighes) was born on 9 November 1935 in Sydney. She was a champion spearfisher before she became a passionate advocate for marine conservation.

The Taylors began their career in the 1960s, capturing stunning images of marine life and sharing them with the world. They were pioneers in the development of underwater filming and photography techniques, and their work has been featured in numerous documentaries and films.

In the 1970s, the Taylors were involved in the production of the blockbuster movie Jaws. Their footage of real sharks was used in the film, contributing to its realism and success. However, they later regretted their involvement due to the negative impact the film had on public perceptions of sharks.

The Taylors have also been involved in numerous conservation efforts. They played a key role in the establishment of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, and have campaigned against shark culling and the shark fin trade.
