Ronald Sugar

Ronald D. Sugar is an American business executive and former chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Northrop Grumman. He has been recognized for his contributions to the aerospace and defense industry, and has held numerous leadership positions in various organizations.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Sugar was born in Los Angeles, California. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), followed by a Master's degree and Ph.D. in the same field from the UCLA School of Engineering.

Career[edit | edit source]

Sugar began his career at TRW Inc., a provider of advanced technology products and services for the aerospace, information systems, and automotive markets. He held various positions at TRW, including chief financial officer and vice president of operations.

In 2001, Sugar joined Northrop Grumman, a global aerospace and defense technology company. He served as the company's CEO from 2003 to 2009, and as chairman of the board from 2003 to 2010. Under his leadership, Northrop Grumman grew significantly, with major acquisitions and the development of key defense systems.

After retiring from Northrop Grumman, Sugar has served on the boards of various companies, including Apple Inc., Chevron Corporation, and Amgen. He is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Sugar has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the aerospace and defense industry. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2010 for his leadership in the design and development of defense systems.

Sugar is married and has two children. He is a resident of Los Angeles, California.
