Rosie Alegado
Rosie Alegado is an American microbiologist and oceanographer known for her research on the interactions between microbes and their environments. She is an associate professor at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in the Department of Oceanography and the Sea Grant College Program. Her work focuses on the role of microbes in the health of marine ecosystems and their impact on climate change.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Rosie Alegado was born and raised in Hawaii. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Stanford University. She then pursued her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she studied the molecular mechanisms of host-microbe interactions.
Career[edit | edit source]
After completing her Ph.D., Alegado conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley, where she investigated the evolutionary relationships between microbes and their hosts. In 2013, she joined the faculty at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
Alegado's research has been instrumental in understanding the complex relationships between marine microbes and their environments. Her work has implications for marine biology, ecology, and environmental science. She has published numerous articles in scientific journals and has been a speaker at various international conferences.
