Ruddles Brewery
Ruddles Brewery[edit | edit source]
Ruddles Brewery is a well-known British brewery that was established in the late 18th century. It is renowned for its traditional brewing methods and high-quality ales.
History[edit | edit source]
Ruddles Brewery was founded in 1799 by Richard Ruddle in Langham, Rutland. The brewery was initially a small-scale operation, but it gradually expanded over the years. In the 19th century, the brewery was taken over by Richard's descendants, who continued to uphold the traditional brewing methods that had made Ruddles Brewery famous.
Beers[edit | edit source]
Ruddles Brewery is best known for its Ruddles Best Bitter, a traditional British ale with a distinctive hoppy flavour. Other popular beers produced by the brewery include Ruddles County, a strong bitter with a rich, fruity taste, and Ruddles Orchard, a unique ale brewed with a blend of apple juice and malt.
Ownership[edit | edit source]
Over the years, Ruddles Brewery has changed hands several times. In 1986, it was acquired by Grolsch, a Dutch brewing company. Later, in 1997, it was sold to Morland Brewery, which was subsequently taken over by Greene King in 1999. Despite these changes in ownership, the quality and character of Ruddles beers have remained consistent.
Location[edit | edit source]
The original Ruddles Brewery was located in Langham, Rutland. However, after the acquisition by Greene King, brewing was moved to Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. Despite the change in location, the brewery continues to use the same traditional brewing methods that have been passed down through generations.
Recognition[edit | edit source]
Ruddles Brewery has received numerous awards and accolades for its beers. In particular, Ruddles County has been recognised as one of the best traditional British ales, winning several awards at beer festivals across the UK.
