Rudie van Vuuren
Rudie van Vuuren is a Namibian physician and former cricket and rugby union player. He is the only person to have played in both the Cricket World Cup and the Rugby World Cup in the same year, 2003.
Early life[edit | edit source]
Van Vuuren was born on 20 September 1972 in Windhoek, Namibia. He attended Windhoek High School, where he played both cricket and rugby.
Career[edit | edit source]
Van Vuuren made his debut for the Namibian cricket team in 2001. He played in the 2003 Cricket World Cup, where he took five wickets against England, becoming the first Namibian to take five wickets in a World Cup match.
In the same year, he also represented Namibia in the Rugby World Cup, playing as a flanker. He is the only person to have played in both the Cricket World Cup and the Rugby World Cup in the same year.
Personal life[edit | edit source]
Van Vuuren is a qualified physician and runs a conservation charity in Namibia with his wife, Marlice van Vuuren. They have one son.
