Rudolph Tanzi

Rudolph E. Tanzi is an American neuroscientist and geneticist renowned for his research on Alzheimer's disease. He is the Joseph P. and Rose F. Kennedy Professor of Neurology at Harvard University and the Director of the Genetics and Aging Research Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Rudolph E. Tanzi was born in Providence, Rhode Island. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Rochester, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology. He then pursued his doctoral studies at Harvard University, where he received a Ph.D. in neurobiology.

Tanzi's career has been primarily focused on the genetic underpinnings of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease. He has been instrumental in identifying several key genes associated with the disease, including the first Alzheimer's disease gene, the amyloid precursor protein (APP), and the presenilin genes.
