From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

SB-205,384 is a drug that acts as a potent and selective antagonist for the serotonin receptor subtype 5-HT2C. It has been used in scientific research to investigate the function of this receptor.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

SB-205,384 is a potent and selective antagonist for the 5-HT2C receptor. This receptor is one of the several different subtypes of the serotonin receptor, which are a group of G protein-coupled receptors that are targeted by many antidepressant and antipsychotic drugs.

The 5-HT2C receptor is known to be involved in the regulation of mood, anxiety, feeding, and reproductive behavior, and so drugs acting at this receptor may have potential for the treatment of various different conditions.

Research Uses[edit | edit source]

SB-205,384 has been used in scientific research to investigate the function of the 5-HT2C receptor. It has been shown to block the effects of fenfluramine, a drug which releases serotonin and is used for the treatment of obesity, suggesting that the 5-HT2C receptor may be involved in the appetite-suppressing effects of this drug.
