SB-334867 is a drug that is used in scientific research. It is an antagonist for the Orexin receptor (also known as hypocretin receptor), specifically the OX1 subtype. SB-334867 was the first non-peptide antagonist developed for this receptor. It has been found to reduce self-administration of alcohol in rats.

SB-334867 is a selective antagonist for the orexin OX1 receptor. It has a much lower affinity for the OX2 receptor. The drug has been shown to inhibit orexin-A induced calcium mobilization in cells expressing the OX1 receptor.

Uses[edit | edit source]

SB-334867 is used in scientific research to investigate the role of the orexin system in various processes. It has been used in studies on feeding behavior, sleep-wake cycle, drug addiction, and stress.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

As a research drug, SB-334867 is not used in humans and therefore its side effects are not well known. However, in animal studies, it has been shown to cause a decrease in food intake and body weight.
