SCH-58261 is a drug which acts as a potent and selective antagonist for the adenosine A2A receptor. It has neuroprotective effects, and has been used in research to explore the role of A2A receptors in the brain.

SCH-58261 is a potent and selective antagonist for the adenosine A2A receptor. It has a Ki value of 1.3nM at the human A2A receptor, and over 400-fold selectivity over other adenosine receptors.

Neuroprotective effects[edit | edit source]

SCH-58261 has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in animal models. It has been suggested that this may be due to its ability to modulate glutamate release.

Use in research[edit | edit source]

SCH-58261 has been used in research to explore the role of A2A receptors in the brain. It has been used in studies investigating the role of these receptors in Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia, and drug addiction.
