Sabzevar

Sabzevar is a city in northeastern Iran and the capital of Sabzevar County, in Razavi Khorasan Province. It is approximately 220 kilometers west of Mashhad, the provincial capital. Sabzevar is the commercial center for an agricultural region producing grapes and raisins. There is some small-scale industry, for food processing, copperware and electric motors. Through the old bazaar of Sabzevar fresh, dried, and preserved fruits and vegetables are exported.

Sabzevar, formerly known as Beyhaq (or Beihagh), is a city with a rich history. It was an important city in the Seljuk Empire, and was the hometown of the Persian poet and mystic Attar Neyshaburi.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Sabzevar is located in the northeastern part of Iran, in the Razavi Khorasan Province. It is surrounded by desert and steppe on three sides, with mountains to the north.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of Sabzevar is primarily based on agriculture, with grapes and raisins being the main products. The city also has some small-scale industries, including food processing, copperware, and electric motors.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Sabzevar is known for its rich cultural heritage. It was the hometown of the Persian poet and mystic Attar Neyshaburi, and the city still retains a strong literary tradition.

Sabzevar is home to several educational institutions, including Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences and Islamic Azad University of Sabzevar.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Sabzevar is connected to other parts of Iran by road and rail. The city has a railway station on the Tehran-Mashhad railway line.
