Salix Pharmaceuticals is an American specialty pharmacy company that offers innovative gastroenterology treatments. The company was founded in 1989 and is currently a subsidiary of Bausch Health.

Salix Pharmaceuticals was established in 1989 in California. The company was initially focused on the sales and marketing of endoscopy equipment. In 1994, Salix relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina, where it shifted its focus to the development and commercialization of drugs used in gastroenterology.

In 2009, Salix acquired Oceana Therapeutics, expanding its product portfolio to include treatments for gastrointestinal diseases. In 2015, Salix was acquired by Valeant Pharmaceuticals, which later rebranded as Bausch Health in 2018.

Salix's product portfolio includes a wide range of treatments for various gastrointestinal conditions. Some of their key products include:

  • Xifaxan (rifaximin): An antibiotic used to treat traveler's diarrhea and hepatic encephalopathy.
  • Apriso (mesalamine): A medication used to treat ulcerative colitis.
  • MoviPrep: A medication used to cleanse the colon before a colonoscopy.
