Sam Fender (born 25 April 1994) is an English singer-songwriter and musician. He is known for his high tenor voice and strong Geordie accent, as well as his socially conscious lyrics that address issues such as suicide, depression, and political corruption.

Sam Fender was born in North Shields, a coastal town in Tyne and Wear, England. He grew up in a musical family; his father and brother are both musicians. Fender attended Whitley Bay High School, where he developed an interest in music and began writing songs.

Fender started his music career performing in local pubs and clubs around North Shields. He was discovered by his manager, Owain Davies, while performing at a pub. In 2017, he released his debut single, "Play God," which gained significant attention and led to a recording contract with Polydor Records.

In 2018, Fender was included in the BBC Sound of 2018 list, which highlights promising new artists. He released his debut EP, Dead Boys, later that year. The title track, which deals with the issue of male suicide, received critical acclaim and brought Fender to wider attention.
