Samuel Leroy Jackson (born December 21, 1948) is an American actor and film producer. Widely regarded as one of the most popular and prolific actors of his generation, Jackson's films have collectively grossed over $27 billion worldwide, making him the highest-grossing actor of all time.

Early life[edit | edit source]

Jackson was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he initially pursued a degree in marine biology before switching to drama.

Career[edit | edit source]

Jackson began his acting career on stage before transitioning to film in the early 1970s. He gained critical acclaim for his role in the 1991 film Jungle Fever, directed by Spike Lee. His performance in Pulp Fiction (1994), directed by Quentin Tarantino, earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor nomination and solidified his status as a leading actor.

Jackson has appeared in numerous blockbuster films, including Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995), A Time to Kill (1996), The Negotiator (1998), and Unbreakable (2000). He is also known for his role as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in films such as Iron Man (2008), The Avengers (2012), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
