Saroj Gupta
Indian oncologist and founder of the Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre and Research Institute
Saroj Gupta (5 December 1929 – 21 January 2002) was a renowned Indian oncologist and the founder of the Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre and Research Institute in Thakurpukur, Kolkata, India. He dedicated his life to the treatment and care of cancer patients, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.

Saroj Gupta was born on 5 December 1929 in Bikrampur, which is now part of Bangladesh. He pursued his medical education at the Calcutta Medical College, where he developed a keen interest in oncology. After completing his studies, he furthered his training in the United Kingdom, specializing in cancer treatment.

Upon returning to India, Dr. Gupta joined the Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute in Kolkata, where he worked as a senior oncologist. His experiences there highlighted the need for affordable cancer care in India, particularly for those who could not afford treatment.
