Schaumburg is a village located in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is a northwestern suburb of Chicago and is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. With a population of approximately 75,000 residents, Schaumburg is one of the largest communities in the state.

The area that is now Schaumburg was originally settled by German immigrants in the mid-19th century. The village was officially incorporated in 1956, and since then, it has experienced significant growth and development. Today, Schaumburg is known for its thriving economy, diverse community, and excellent quality of life.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Schaumburg is situated approximately 28 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. It covers a total area of 19.33 square miles, with 19.22 square miles of land and 0.11 square miles of water. The village is located in the northwest suburbs of Cook County and is bordered by the villages of Hoffman Estates, Roselle, and Elk Grove Village.

Schaumburg is home to a vibrant and diverse economy. The village is known for its strong business community, with numerous corporate headquarters and office parks located within its boundaries. Some of the major employers in Schaumburg include Motorola Solutions, IBM, Verizon, and Zurich North America. The Woodfield Mall, one of the largest shopping centers in the United States, is also located in Schaumburg and attracts visitors from all over the region.

Schaumburg is served by several highly regarded school districts, including Township High School District 211 and Community Consolidated School District 54. The village is also home to the Schaumburg Campus of Roosevelt University and the Illinois Institute of Art - Schaumburg.

One of the main attractions in Schaumburg is the Woodfield Mall, which offers a wide range of shopping, dining, and entertainment options. The village is also home to the Schaumburg Boomers, a professional baseball team that competes in the independent Frontier League. Additionally, Schaumburg has several parks and recreational facilities, including the Spring Valley Nature Center and the Schaumburg Park District.

Schaumburg is well-connected to the rest of the Chicago metropolitan area through various transportation options. The village is served by several major highways, including Interstate 90 and Illinois Route 53. The nearest airport is O'Hare International Airport, located approximately 15 miles southeast of Schaumburg.
