Scott Raymond Adams (born June 8, 1957) is an American author and cartoonist, best known as the creator of the comic strip Dilbert. His work is known for its satirical office humor about a white-collar, micromanaged office featuring the engineer Dilbert as the title character.

Adams was born in Windham, New York. He graduated as the valedictorian from Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School in 1975. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Hartwick College in 1979. Adams later received an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley in 1986.

Before becoming a full-time cartoonist, Adams worked in various roles at Pacific Bell between 1986 and 1995. During this time, he created Dilbert, which was first published in 1989. The comic strip gained popularity for its humorous take on the corporate world and office culture.
