Self-confidence

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Self-confidence is a term used in psychology to describe an individual's trust in their own abilities, qualities, and judgment. Self-confidence is important to your health and psychological well-being.[1]

Having a healthy level of self-confidence can help you become successful in your personal and professional life.[2]

Definition[edit | edit source]

Self-confidence is typically based on past experience, and improves as you build up a series of successful outcomes.[3] It is a positive belief that in the future one can generally accomplish what one wishes to do.[4]

Importance[edit | edit source]

Self-confidence is not only important for success, it's also an important factor in mental health.[5] People who lack self-confidence can find it difficult to become successful.[6]

Building Self-Confidence[edit | edit source]

Building self-confidence requires a positive self-image, a positive attitude, and a strong belief in oneself.[7] A few ways to build self-confidence include practicing self-compassion, engaging in physical activity, and avoiding negative self-talk.[8]
