Semotivirus

From WikiMD's WELLNESSPEDIA

Semotivirus is a genus of viruses in the order Picornavirales, in the family Picornaviridae. There is currently only one species in this genus: the Semotivirus A. Viruses in Semotivirus are non-enveloped, with icosahedral and spherical geometries, and T=pseudo3 symmetry. The diameter is around 30 nm. Genomes are linear and non-segmented, around 7.3kb in length.

Virology[edit]

The virus is non-enveloped, with icosahedral and spherical geometries, and T=pseudo3 symmetry. The diameter is around 30 nm. The genome is linear and non-segmented, around 7.3kb in length. The genome codes for viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), which is located in the virus particle. The genome has a single open reading frame (ORF).

Life Cycle[edit]

Viral replication is cytoplasmic. Entry into the host cell is achieved by attachment of the virus to host receptors, which mediates endocytosis. Replication follows the positive stranded RNA virus replication model. Positive stranded RNA virus transcription is the method of transcription. The virus exits the host cell by lysis, and viroporins. Humans and bats serve as the natural host.

Clinical[edit]

The viruses in the Semotivirus genus have been associated with a variety of diseases in humans and animals, including respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases. However, the exact role of these viruses in disease is not yet fully understood.
