Shelby Charter Township, Michigan
Shelby Charter Township is a charter township located in Macomb County, Michigan, United States. As of the 2020 census, the township had a population of 79,408. Shelby Charter Township is a northern suburb of Detroit and is part of the Metro Detroit area.

Shelby Charter Township was established in 1827. The township was named after Isaac Shelby, the first and fifth Governor of Kentucky. The area was originally inhabited by the Ojibwa and Potawatomi tribes before European settlers arrived.
Geography[edit | edit source]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 35.2 square miles (91.1 km²), of which 34.7 square miles (89.9 km²) is land and 0.5 square miles (1.2 km²) is water. The Clinton River runs through the township, providing various recreational opportunities.

As of the 2020 census, the racial makeup of the township was predominantly White, with smaller percentages of African American, Asian, and other racial groups. The township has a diverse population with a mix of families, young professionals, and retirees.
