Sialkot is a city situated in the north-east of the Punjab province in Pakistan. It is the capital city of Sialkot District. The city is known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and significant contributions to the economy of Pakistan.

Sialkot has a rich history dating back to the time of Alexander the Great. It was a part of the Mauryan Empire, and later the Indo-Greek Kingdom. The city was also under the rule of the Sultanate of Delhi, the Mughal Empire, the Sikh Empire, and the British Raj before becoming a part of Pakistan in 1947.

Sialkot is located near the foothills of the Kashmiri mountains. The city is intersected by several rivers and streams, the most prominent of which is the Chenab River. The city's climate is classified as a monsoon-influenced humid subtropical climate.

Economy[edit | edit source]

Sialkot is one of the major industrial centres of Pakistan. It is known for the manufacturing of sports goods, leather goods, surgical instruments, musical instruments, and military uniforms. The city is home to the Sialkot International Airport, the only privately owned public airport in Pakistan and South Asia.

Culture[edit | edit source]

The culture of Sialkot is a blend of Punjabi and Kashmiri cultures. The city is known for its Punjabi poetry, music, and dance forms such as Bhangra and Giddha. The city also hosts several cultural and literary festivals throughout the year.

Sialkot is home to several educational institutions, including the University of Sialkot, Government College Sialkot, and Allama Iqbal National Institute of Arts and Culture.

Sports[edit | edit source]

Sialkot is known as the world's largest producer of hand-sewn footballs. The city's sports industry manufactures footballs for the FIFA World Cup. The city is also home to the Sialkot Stallions, a successful domestic cricket team.
