Sipsmith
Sipsmith is a London-based distillery known for its production of high-quality gin. Founded in 2009, Sipsmith played a significant role in the resurgence of small-batch gin production in the United Kingdom. The distillery is located in Chiswick, a district in West London.
History[edit | edit source]
Sipsmith was founded by Sam Galsworthy, Fairfax Hall, and Jared Brown. The founders aimed to revive the traditional art of gin distillation in London, which had seen a decline due to the dominance of large-scale producers. The distillery was the first to obtain a license to produce gin in London in nearly 200 years, marking a significant milestone in the city's distilling history.
Production Process[edit | edit source]
Sipsmith uses a traditional copper pot still for its distillation process. The still, named "Prudence," was custom-built by the German company Christian Carl. The production process involves the use of high-quality botanicals, including juniper berries, coriander, angelica root, and orris root. The distillation process is carefully monitored to ensure the highest quality of gin.
Products[edit | edit source]
Sipsmith offers a range of gin products, including:
- Sipsmith London Dry Gin
- Sipsmith V.J.O.P. (Very Junipery Over Proof) Gin
- Sipsmith Sloe Gin
- Sipsmith Lemon Drizzle Gin
Each product is crafted with a unique blend of botanicals and follows a meticulous distillation process to ensure a distinct flavor profile.
Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]
Sipsmith has received numerous awards for its gin, including accolades from the International Wine and Spirit Competition and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The distillery's commitment to quality and traditional methods has earned it a reputation as one of the leading gin producers in the world.
