Slavoj Žižek (Slovene: [ˈslavoj ˈʒiʒɛk]; born 21 March 1949) is a Slovenian philosopher, cultural critic, and Marxist theorist. He is a senior researcher at the Institute for Sociology and Philosophy at the University of Ljubljana, and a professor of philosophy and psychoanalysis at the European Graduate School. Žižek's work is widely recognized for its innovative interpretations of Jacques Lacan, Hegel, and Karl Marx, blending their theories with psychoanalysis, Marxist critical theory, and cultural studies.

Biography

Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, then part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Žižek has influenced contemporary thought with his eclectic approach to critical theory. He pursued his PhD in Philosophy at the University of Ljubljana, where he researched the works of Hegel and wrote a dissertation on French structuralism.
