Snowbasin
Snowbasin is a ski resort located in Weber County, Utah, United States. It is one of the oldest continuously operating ski areas in the United States, having been established in 1939. Snowbasin is known for its challenging terrain, luxurious amenities, and its role as a venue for the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Snowbasin was founded by Alf Engen, a Norwegian-American skier and ski school director, who is often credited with helping to popularize skiing in the Western United States. The resort officially opened on November 27, 1939. Over the years, Snowbasin has undergone numerous expansions and upgrades, including the addition of new lifts, lodges, and snowmaking capabilities.
2002 Winter Olympics[edit | edit source]
Snowbasin gained international recognition when it hosted the downhill, combined, and super-G events for the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City. The resort's infrastructure was significantly upgraded for the Olympics, including the construction of the luxurious Earl's Lodge and the Needles Lodge.
Terrain and Lifts[edit | edit source]
Snowbasin offers a variety of terrain suitable for all skill levels, from beginner to expert. The resort features over 3,000 acres of skiable terrain, with a vertical drop of 2,959 feet. There are 11 lifts, including a high-speed gondola, a tram, and several high-speed quad chairs.

- Grizzly Downhill - One of the most challenging runs, used for the men's downhill event during the 2002 Winter Olympics.
- Wildflower Downhill - Used for the women's downhill event during the 2002 Winter Olympics.
- Needles - A popular intermediate run that offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
