St. Francis Medical Center is a for-profit hospital located in Lynwood, California. It is owned by Prime Healthcare Services.

History[edit | edit source]

The hospital was founded in 1945 by the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity. In 1981, it was acquired by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.

In January 1996, the hospital's emergency department was designated a level II trauma center.

After the closure of the nearby Martin Luther King Jr.-Harbor Hospital in August 2007, St. Francis Medical Center experienced an increase in patients. The hospital expanded its emergency department and saw an increase in uninsured and under-insured patients, which put financial strain on the facility.
