St Andrew's Healthcare
St Andrew's Healthcare is a large independent charity based at St Andrew's Hospital in Northampton, which provides psychiatric services. It also has sites in Essex, Birmingham, and Nottinghamshire. The organization offers specialized services for individuals with mental illness, learning disability, brain injury, autism, and dementia, including the National Brain Injury Centre. St Andrew's Healthcare operates as a psychiatric hospital and service provider, offering inpatient care, rehabilitation, and step-down housing.
The majority of St Andrew's Healthcare's revenue and patients come from the National Health Service (NHS) through referrals from NHS commissioners. With the capacity to accommodate approximately 900 patients across its various sites, the organization has experienced significant growth since 2000. In the 2016/17 financial year, its turnover reached £183 million. Surpluses generated by the charity are reinvested in patient care.
As of 2016, St Andrew's Healthcare employed over 4,500 people throughout the United Kingdom. In 2017, it formed partnerships with the University of Northampton, Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Northampton General Hospital, and Kettering General Hospital to attract more mental health and learning disability nurses to the county.
The organization's leadership has seen changes over the years. In 2012/13, Professor Philip Sugarman, the then Chief Executive, received a salary of £653,000, which represented an 18% increase from the previous year. In February 2014, Prof. Sugarman retired earlier than planned due to health reasons. Gil Baldwin assumed the role of Chief Executive in 2014, with a basic salary of £328,000 in 2016. Following Baldwin's resignation in January 2018, Peter Winslow served as Executive Chairman until a permanent successor was found. Katie Fisher took over as CEO in 2018 but resigned in October 2021. Jess Lievesley, the deputy CEO, assumed the role on an interim basis.
In September 2020, Paul Burstow was appointed as the chair of St Andrew's Healthcare.
