St Edmund's College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Cambridge. Founded in 1896, it is one of the more recent additions to the university. The college was originally established to allow Roman Catholics to study at Cambridge, a practice that was previously restricted. St Edmund's College was founded in 1896 by Henry Fitzalan Howard, the 15th Duke of Norfolk, and Baron Anatole von Hügel, as a place of residence and learning for Roman Catholic students at the University of Cambridge. It was recognized as an official college of the university in 1965 and began admitting both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
