Steve McMichael (born October 17, 1957) is a former professional American football player, professional wrestler, and sports commentator. He is best known for his career in the National Football League (NFL) and his time with World Championship Wrestling (WCW).

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Steve McMichael was born in Houston, Texas. He attended Frederick Douglass High School in Houston, where he excelled in both football and track and field. McMichael later attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he played college football for the Texas Longhorns football team.

NFL Career[edit | edit source]

McMichael was drafted by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 1980 NFL Draft. However, he is best known for his time with the Chicago Bears, where he played from 1981 to 1993. McMichael was a key member of the Bears' defense and played a significant role in their victory in Super Bowl XX.

During his career with the Bears, McMichael was known for his durability and toughness, playing in 191 consecutive games. He was selected to the Pro Bowl twice, in 1986 and 1987, and was named a first-team All-Pro in 1985 and 1987.

After leaving the Bears, McMichael played for the Green Bay Packers in 1994 before retiring from professional football.

After retiring from the NFL, McMichael transitioned to professional wrestling. He joined World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1995 and became a member of the Four Horsemen stable. McMichael wrestled under the ring name "Mongo" and was known for his physical style and charisma.

In addition to his football and wrestling careers, McMichael has worked as a sports commentator. He has provided analysis for various football games and has appeared on several sports talk shows.

Steve McMichael is married to Misty Davenport, and they have one daughter, Macy. In recent years, McMichael has been open about his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
