Stockholm is the capital and largest city of Sweden. It is located on the eastern coast of the country, where the freshwater Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. The city is known for its stunning archipelago, which consists of approximately 30,000 islands, islets, and skerries.

Stockholm's history dates back to the 13th century when it was founded by Birger Jarl to protect Sweden from foreign invasions and to stop the raids of the Baltic Sea pirates. The city quickly grew in importance due to its strategic location and became a central hub for trade and commerce.
