The city is known for its rich history, cultural heritage, and its significant role in the production of rice in Spain.

History[edit | edit source]

The history of Sueca dates back to the Roman times, when it was a small settlement. The city grew in importance during the Muslim period, and it was during this time that the cultivation of rice was introduced in the area. After the Reconquista, Sueca was incorporated into the Kingdom of Valencia.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Sueca is located in the eastern part of Spain, on the flat plains of the Valencian Community. The city is surrounded by rice fields, which are irrigated by the waters of the Xúquer River. The city's location near the Mediterranean Sea influences its climate, which is typically Mediterranean with mild winters and hot summers.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of Sueca is largely based on agriculture, particularly rice cultivation. The city is one of the main producers of rice in Spain, and the local variety, known as Bomba rice, is highly prized for its quality. Other important sectors of the economy include services, construction, and tourism.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Sueca is known for its rich cultural heritage, which includes traditional festivals such as the Fallas, a celebration held in March that involves the creation of large sculptures that are later burned. The city is also home to the International Contest of Paella Valenciana, a competition that attracts chefs from around the world.

Notable people[edit | edit source]

Several notable individuals hail from Sueca, including writer and philosopher Joan Fuster, who is considered one of the most important figures of contemporary Valencian literature.
