Sukabumi

Sukabumi is a city located in the West Java province of Indonesia. It is the capital of the Sukabumi Regency, which surrounds the city, although the city is administratively independent of the regency.

The history of Sukabumi dates back to the Dutch East Indies era. The city was officially established on June 1, 1921, during the Dutch colonial period. The city's name, Sukabumi, means "loved by all" in Sundanese.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Sukabumi is located in the southern part of West Java, approximately 100 kilometers from the provincial capital, Bandung. The city is surrounded by the Sukabumi Regency but is administratively independent. The city is situated in a mountainous area and is known for its cool climate.

The economy of Sukabumi is primarily based on agriculture, with rice, tea, and rubber being the main crops. The city is also known for its fishery sector, particularly the cultivation of tilapia. In addition to agriculture, Sukabumi has a growing tourism industry, with several natural and historical attractions.

Sukabumi is home to a diverse range of cultures, with influences from Sundanese, Javanese, and Betawi cultures. The city is known for its traditional music, such as angklung and kecapi suling, and traditional dances, such as jaipongan and pencak silat.

Sukabumi is home to several educational institutions, including Siliwangi University, one of the oldest universities in West Java. The city also has a number of vocational and technical schools.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Sukabumi is served by a network of roads and railways. The city is connected to other parts of West Java and Jakarta by the Cianjur-Sukabumi Highway and the Jakarta-Bandung-Surabaya railway.
