The Suspensory Ligament of Penis is a fibrous cord that connects the penis to the pubic symphysis, which is the joint at the front of the pelvis. This ligament plays a crucial role in maintaining an erection by providing support to the penis.

Anatomy[edit | edit source]

The suspensory ligament of penis is composed of two separate structures: the fundiform ligament and the suspensory ligament proper. The fundiform ligament is superficial and originates from the lower abdominal wall, while the suspensory ligament proper is deep and originates from the pubic symphysis.

Function[edit | edit source]

The primary function of the suspensory ligament of penis is to support the penis during an erection. It helps to keep the penis erect and pointed upwards during sexual arousal.

Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]

In some cases, the suspensory ligament of penis may be severed or damaged, leading to a condition known as penile droop. This can occur as a result of injury, surgery, or congenital conditions. Treatment typically involves surgical repair of the ligament.
