Swapna Barman
Swapna Barman (born 29 October 1996) is an Indian heptathlete. She is known for her achievements in the field of athletics and has represented India in various international competitions.

Swapna Barman was born in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, India. She was born with six toes on each foot, a condition that posed challenges in her athletic career. Despite these challenges, she pursued her passion for sports from a young age.

Swapna Barman's career in athletics began to take shape when she started training under the guidance of her coach, Subhash Sarkar. She specializes in the heptathlon, which is a track and field combined events contest made up of seven events: 100 metres hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 metres, long jump, javelin throw, and 800 metres.
Major Achievements[edit | edit source]
- In 2017, Swapna won the gold medal in the heptathlon at the Asian Athletics Championships held in Bhubaneswar, India.
- She gained international recognition when she won the gold medal in the heptathlon at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. This victory made her the first Indian heptathlete to win a gold medal at the Asian Games.

Swapna Barman comes from a humble background. Her father, Panchanan Barman, is a rickshaw puller, and her mother, Basana Barman, works on a tea estate. Despite financial constraints, her family has been supportive of her athletic career.

Swapna's unique physical condition of having six toes on each foot required specially designed shoes to accommodate her feet. This condition often caused her pain and discomfort during competitions. However, her determination and resilience have been key factors in her success.
