Systole (medicine)

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

In medicine, systole refers to the contraction of the heart's ventricles, during which blood is pumped out of the heart and into the circulatory system. This is the first stage of the cardiac cycle, followed by diastole, which is the relaxation of the ventricles and the filling of the ventricles with blood.
