T-cell vaccine
T-cell vaccine is a type of vaccine that stimulates the body's immune system to fight against certain diseases by activating T cells. T cells, also known as T lymphocytes, are a type of white blood cell that play a central role in cell-mediated immunity.

T-cell vaccines are designed to elicit a strong and specific immune response against a particular pathogen. They work by introducing antigens into the body, which are then recognized by the T cells. This recognition triggers the T cells to proliferate and differentiate into effector T cells, which can directly kill infected cells or help other immune cells to do so.
Types of T-cell vaccines[edit | edit source]
There are several types of T-cell vaccines, including:
- Peptide vaccines: These vaccines contain short pieces of the pathogen's proteins that can be recognized by T cells.
- DNA vaccines: These vaccines contain the genetic material of the pathogen, which is taken up by cells in the body. These cells then produce the pathogen's proteins, which are recognized by the T cells.
- Viral vector vaccines: These vaccines use a harmless virus to deliver the pathogen's proteins into cells, where they are recognized by the T cells.

T-cell vaccines have been developed for a variety of diseases, including cancer, HIV, and tuberculosis. They are also being investigated for use against COVID-19.
Challenges and Future Directions[edit | edit source]
Despite their potential, T-cell vaccines face several challenges. These include the difficulty of identifying the right antigens to include in the vaccine, the need to stimulate a strong enough immune response, and the risk of causing an overly strong immune response that could lead to autoimmune diseases. Future research is focused on overcoming these challenges and improving the efficacy and safety of T-cell vaccines.
