Tanya Holland is a renowned American chef, cookbook author, and television personality. She is best known for her innovative take on modern soul food, as well as her ongoing commitment to community and sustainability.

Tanya Holland was born and raised in Rochester, New York. She developed an interest in the culinary arts from a young age, inspired by her parents' love for international cuisines. Holland pursued her passion for food at the La Varenne Ecole de Cuisine in Burgundy, France, where she received a Grand Diplôme.

Career[edit | edit source]

After her graduation, Holland honed her culinary skills in various kitchens around the world. She returned to the United States and worked at several prestigious restaurants in New York City before moving to California. In 2007, she opened her own restaurant, Brown Sugar Kitchen, in West Oakland. The restaurant quickly gained popularity for its innovative and delicious soul food.

In addition to her restaurant, Holland has made a name for herself as a television personality. She has appeared on numerous cooking shows, including the Food Network's "Melting Pot" and Bravo's "Top Chef". She also hosted her own television series, "Tanya's Kitchen Table", on the OWN Network.

Holland is also a successful cookbook author. Her first book, "New Soul Cooking: Updating a Cuisine Rich in Flavor and Tradition", was published in 2003. Her second cookbook, "Brown Sugar Kitchen: New-Style, Down-Home Recipes from Sweet West Oakland", was published in 2014 and features recipes from her popular restaurant.

She has been involved in numerous community projects and initiatives, including the West Oakland Food Collaborative and the Slow Food Movement. Throughout her career, Holland has received numerous awards and recognition for her contributions to the culinary world. She was awarded the California Restaurant Association's Restaurateur of the Year in 2013. In 2018, she was inducted into the Les Dames d'Escoffier International.
