Tedy Lacap Bruschi (born June 9, 1973) is a former professional American football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). He played his entire 13-season career with the New England Patriots. Bruschi is a three-time Super Bowl champion and a two-time Pro Bowl selection.

Early Life and College Career[edit | edit source]

Bruschi was born in San Francisco, California. He attended Roseville High School in Roseville, California, where he was a standout athlete in both football and track and field. Bruschi went on to play college football at the University of Arizona, where he was a defensive end for the Arizona Wildcats. He was a two-time consensus All-American and tied the NCAA Division I-A sack record with 52 sacks.

Professional Career[edit | edit source]

Bruschi was drafted by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 1996 NFL Draft. He transitioned from defensive end to linebacker in the NFL. Bruschi quickly became a key player in the Patriots' defense, known for his leadership and playmaking ability.

Super Bowl Championships[edit | edit source]

Bruschi was an integral part of the Patriots' defense during their Super Bowl-winning seasons. He helped lead the team to victories in Super Bowl XXXVI, Super Bowl XXXVIII, and Super Bowl XXXIX. Bruschi's performance in these games solidified his reputation as a clutch player.

In February 2005, Bruschi suffered a mild stroke just days after playing in the 2005 Pro Bowl. He was diagnosed with a patent foramen ovale (PFO), a congenital heart defect. Despite this setback, Bruschi made a remarkable recovery and returned to play in the 2005 season, earning the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award.

Bruschi announced his retirement from professional football on August 31, 2009. After retiring, he joined ESPN as an analyst, providing expert commentary on NFL games and events. Bruschi is also involved in various charitable activities, including the Tedy's Team foundation, which raises awareness and funds for stroke research.

Bruschi is married to Heidi Bomberger Bruschi, and they have three children. He is of Filipino and Italian descent. Bruschi has been active in promoting stroke awareness and heart health, inspired by his own experiences.
