Tektin-1
Tektin-1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the TEKT1 gene. Tektin-1 is a component of the microtubules, which are a part of the cytoskeleton of eukaryotic cells.

Tektin-1 is a structural protein involved in the formation of cilia and flagella. It is a part of the axonemal complex, a set of proteins that form the core structure of cilia and flagella. Tektin-1 is essential for the proper functioning of these structures, which play a crucial role in cell movement and signal transduction.
Clinical significance[edit | edit source]
Mutations in the TEKT1 gene have been associated with primary ciliary dyskinesia, a rare genetic disorder characterized by chronic respiratory tract infections, abnormally positioned internal organs, and infertility.
Structure[edit | edit source]
The TEKT1 gene is located on the long (q) arm of chromosome 17 at position 25. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the tektin family of proteins. Tektin proteins are thought to form a template for the periodic arrangement of tubulin dimers in the axoneme.
