Temecula is a city located in the southwestern part of Riverside County, California, United States. The city is a prominent tourist destination, with the Temecula Valley Wine Country, Old Town Temecula, the Temecula Valley Polo Club, the Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival, the Temecula Valley International Film Festival, championship golf courses, and resort accommodations attracting a significant amount of tourists which appreciably contributes to the city's economic profile.

The area was inhabited by the Temecula Indians for hundreds of years before their contact with the Spanish missionaries. The name Temecula comes from the Luiseño word "Temecunga" - "temet" meaning "sun" and "-ngna" which means "place of".

Geography[edit | edit source]

Temecula is bordered by the city of Murrieta to the north and the Pechanga Indian Reservation and San Diego County to the south. The city covers a total area of 37.28 square miles, of which, 37.27 square miles of it is land and 0.01 square miles of it (0.03%) is water.

Healthcare[edit | edit source]

Temecula is served by several different healthcare facilities. The largest of these is the Temecula Valley Hospital, which offers a comprehensive range of medical services, including emergency care, heart care, advanced surgical procedures, diagnostic imaging, maternity, and rehabilitation services.

Temecula is served by the Temecula Valley Unified School District (TVUSD). The district operates 17 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, 3 comprehensive high schools, and 1 continuation high school. In addition, there are several private schools in the city.

The economy of Temecula is largely driven by tourism, retail, education, healthcare, and social services. The city is also home to many commercial, office, and retail developments.

Several notable individuals hail from Temecula, including professional golfer Rickie Fowler, professional baseball player Reid Johnson, and actress Erin Sanders.
