Tertiary refers to the third level, stage, or order of something. In the context of education, it refers to post-secondary education. In geology, it refers to a period in the Cenozoic Era. In medicine, it refers to the third stage of a disease or disorder.

In the field of education, Tertiary education or Higher education is the level of education following secondary education. It includes universities and colleges, as well as trade schools and vocational training. Tertiary education is often associated with the attainment of a degree or certification.

Tertiary in Geology[edit | edit source]

In geology, the Tertiary is a period of the Cenozoic Era following the Mesozoic Era and preceding the Quaternary Period. It spans the time between 66 and 2.6 million years ago. The Tertiary is often divided into five epochs: the Paleocene, Eocene, Oligocene, Miocene, and Pliocene.

Tertiary in Medicine[edit | edit source]

In medicine, Tertiary care refers to specialized consultative healthcare, usually for inpatients and on referral from a primary or secondary health professional, in a facility that has personnel and facilities for advanced medical investigation and treatment.
