The Age

The Age is a daily newspaper that has been published in Melbourne, Australia since 1854. Owned by Nine Entertainment, it is primarily aimed at readers from Victoria but also serves readers nationwide.

The Age was established by three Melbourne businessmen, the brothers John and Henry Cooke, who had arrived from New Zealand in the 1840s, and Walter Powell. The first edition appeared on 17 October 1854.

The Age primarily covers topics such as politics, business, culture, sports, and more. It is known for its journalistic standards and has won multiple Walkley Awards, the highest award in Australian journalism.

Digital Age[edit | edit source]

In 1999, The Age went online, marking its entry into the digital age. This allowed the newspaper to reach a wider audience and offer up-to-the-minute news coverage.

Over the years, The Age has been involved in a number of controversies and legal battles, particularly around issues of defamation, privacy, and journalistic ethics.
