The Perth Group
The Perth Group is a group of HIV/AIDS denialists based in Perth, Australia. The group was formed in 1981 and is composed of Eleni Papadopulos-Eleopulos, Valendar F. Turner, and John M. Papadimitriou. The group's main contention is that the existence of HIV has not been definitively proven, and that AIDS is not caused by an infectious virus, but is a condition that arises from oxidative stress.
History[edit | edit source]
The Perth Group was formed in 1981, at the height of the AIDS epidemic. The group's founding members, Eleni Papadopulos-Eleopulos, a medical physicist, Valendar F. Turner, an emergency physician, and John M. Papadimitriou, a pathologist, were all based in Perth, Australia.
Controversies[edit | edit source]
The Perth Group's views have been widely criticized by the scientific community. The group's denial of the existence of HIV and its role in causing AIDS goes against the consensus of the scientific community, which has overwhelming evidence supporting the existence of HIV and its role in causing AIDS.
