Timboon, Victoria
Timboon is a town in the Western District of Victoria, Australia. It is situated 215 kilometres (134 mi) south-west of Melbourne, the state capital, and 17 kilometres (11 mi) north of Port Campbell on the Great Ocean Road. The town is in the Shire of Corangamite local government area and had a population of 871 at the 2016 census.

Timboon was established during the Victorian Gold Rush in the 1850s. The Post Office opened on 7 April 1879. The town's name is believed to be derived from 'timboon', an Aboriginal word for a species of grass.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The town's economy is primarily based on dairy farming, with the local Timboon Fine Ice Cream company being a notable business. The town is also known for its whisky distillery, the Timboon Railway Shed Distillery, which is a popular tourist attraction.
Education[edit | edit source]
Timboon has a P-12 school system, the Timboon P-12 School, which caters to students from Prep to Year 12. The school has a strong focus on agricultural education due to the town's farming background.
Transport[edit | edit source]
Timboon is connected to other towns in the region by the Warrnambool railway line, which was extended to the town in 1892. The Timboon Rail Trail is a popular walking and cycling path that follows the old railway line.
Sport[edit | edit source]
The town has an Australian rules football team, the Timboon Demons, which competes in the Warrnambool & District Football League.
