Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is an online action role-playing video game developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. It is a sequel to the 2016 game Tom Clancy's The Division and was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on March 15, 2019. The game is set in a near-future Washington, D.C. in the aftermath of a genetically engineered virus known as "Green Poison" that has decimated the population.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is a third-person shooter with elements of role-playing games. Players assume the role of agents of the Strategic Homeland Division (SHD), commonly referred to as "The Division," who are tasked with rebuilding the city and combating various hostile factions. The game features both player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) modes.

PvE[edit | edit source]

In the PvE mode, players can explore a detailed open-world representation of Washington, D.C., complete main missions, side missions, and various activities. The game includes a dynamic weather system and a day-night cycle that affects gameplay and enemy behavior. Players can also engage in cooperative gameplay with up to three other players.

PvP[edit | edit source]

The PvP mode includes the Dark Zone, a dangerous area where players can engage in combat against both AI-controlled enemies and other players. The Dark Zone is known for its high-risk, high-reward gameplay, where players can find rare and powerful loot but must extract it safely to keep it.

Story[edit | edit source]

The story of Tom Clancy's The Division 2 picks up several months after the events of the first game. The Division agents are called to Washington, D.C. to help restore order and prevent the collapse of the government. The city is controlled by various factions, including the True Sons, a paramilitary group; the Hyenas, a gang of looters; and the Outcasts, a group of survivors seeking revenge.

Development[edit | edit source]

The game was developed by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with other Ubisoft studios, including Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Reflections, and Ubisoft Annecy. The development team focused on addressing feedback from the first game, improving endgame content, and creating a more engaging and dynamic world.

Reception[edit | edit source]

Tom Clancy's The Division 2 received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its detailed world, engaging gameplay, and improvements over its predecessor. However, some criticism was directed at its endgame content and technical issues.

Expansions and Updates[edit | edit source]

Since its release, the game has received several updates and expansions, including new missions, game modes, and seasonal events. Notable expansions include "Warlords of New York," which takes players back to New York City to confront a new threat.
