Traumatic refers to any physical injury or wound caused by external force or violence. Traumatic injuries can result from a wide variety of blunt, penetrating and burn mechanisms, including motor vehicle collisions, falls, drowning, gunshots, and burns.

Types of Trauma[edit | edit source]

Trauma can be classified into two main types: Physical trauma and Psychological trauma.

  • Physical trauma is an injury to the body caused by physical harm from an external source. This can include injuries from falls, motor vehicle collisions, sports injuries, and violence.
  • Psychological trauma is a type of damage to the mind that occurs as a result of a severely distressing event. This can include experiences such as war, rape, natural disasters, and severe physical abuse.

The effects of trauma can be both physical and psychological, and can include PTSD, depression, anxiety, and physical injuries such as broken bones, burns, and head injuries.

Treatment for trauma can involve a combination of physical and psychological therapies, including psychotherapy, medication, and physical therapy.
